Why Jehu?

Jehu Ministries was not a designation picked by Prophet Ed Lixey by accident. The selection of this name is representative of the call of God on Ed and his ministry. Understanding the name “Jehu” offers much insight into the purpose of this ministry “for such a time as this.”

The name “Jehu” appears in Scripture 59 times in 56 verses of the Old Testament. The first reference to the person of Jehu is in 1 Kings 16. In verse 7, Jehu is described as a prophet. In verse 16, Jehu is declared as the anointed king of Israel. Before he ascended to the throne, Scripture references Jehu as the one who killed Jezebel and the remaining members of the house of Ahab. This description is significant.

The name “Jehu” (H3058) translates “Jehovah is He.” As a prophet of God and anointed King, he stands out as a representative of God. Jehu lived in the time of Ahab and Jezebel when Baal worship was pervasive in the land of the Israelites. Though true prophets of Jehovah remained, they were not well known publicly. Yet, they were a significant group that God used mightily to overcome the apostasy and darkness of the times.

To understand the significance of Jehu, a quick study of Jehu’s most notorious act is in order. In 2 Chronicles 22:7 we are told that God anointed Jehu to cut off the house of Ahab. King Ahab, during his reign, abandoned allegiance to God and took a wife that led him and his household into the worship of Baal. The name “Baal” is a Hebrew word for the term “lord,” but said name was never used in connection with Jehovah. The name is identified with the supreme male divinity of the Phoenician and Canaanitish nations. It is often referred to in the plural and encompasses other false gods such as Molech (the one to whom children were sacrificed). Jewish Baal worshipers abandoned Jehovah and their God given identity, choosing to worship a false god. Jezebel was a priestess of Baal and zealously worked to promote Baal over Jehovah. She did her best to eradicate all things related to God from the kingdom.

The name “Jezebel” means in the Hebrew “Baal exalts”, which reveals Jezebel in Scripture as representative of any anti-Christ spirit that exalts itself above the God. Jezebel type spirits work to turn people away from their true identity and the glorious covenantal commitment of God. Today, this anti-Christ spirit works to undercut the grace-based covenant now manifested in the incarnation and atoning work of Christ. It also works to convince people that they do not bear the image and likeness of God, thereby negating their true value. In one sense, nothing has changed in terms of the work of this spirit. It is and always has been a liar that seduces people away from the truth about God.

God called Jehu to come against the anti-Christ spirit in his day. To accomplish his call, God sent Jehu to Jezreel, where the remnants of the house of Ahab resided, including Jezebel. The name “Jezreel” translates from the Hebrew as “God sows”. Here it is clear that God sent Jehu to Jezreel to once again sow truth into the nation of Israel by eliminating the family most identified in that time with Baal worship. Reading the Scriptural texts regarding Jehu reveals he fulfilled his call with a great zeal. God is committed to humanity to reveal himself as the one True God who has called us into relationship with Him through the reconciling work of Christ. Anything that works to undercut this truth will be confronted and exposed by God.

Jehu Ministries and Prophet Ed Lixey have been raised up by God for such a time as this to carry God’s truth to people; truth about who they are and the plans and purposes God has for each one. Ed Lixey has a great zeal and passion to carry out his calling and that of this ministry. Ed’s greatest desire is to share the heart of God with all of humanity in a way that exposes the lies of the anti-Christ spirit, pointing instead to Jesus Christ alone. Edification, exhalation and comfort are words frequently used by Ed to describe his calling. If you know Ed, you know he is uncompromising in fulling this goal.

As the current President of Jehu Ministries International, I invite you to share in the excitement of discovering all that God has purposed for you and accomplished on your behalf. Prophet Ed Lixey is one of God’s tools to aid you on this journey of discovery.
